Shashank Vishwakarma is a composer, multi-instrumentalist & singer-songwriter, and guitarist from Lucknow. He began singing at the age of 5, thereby guiding his priorities in school where he found a sense of familiarity and peace in chapel services. After completing his degree in Engineering, he joined the Swarnabhoomi Academy Of Music in Chennai. During his time at Swarnabhoomi, he studied contemporary western music theory, composition and arrangement, jazz guitar, and konnakol under distinguished faculty members Pedro Carneiro Silva, Dr. S Ghatam Kartik, and Umayalapuram Mali. To date, he has been associated with some Jazz and Blues ensembles, Funk Quintets, Pop and Contemporary Folk Rock groups as Key composer and bandleader. He draws inspiration from the likes of Sigur Ros, Damien Rice, Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, John Mayer & David Gilmour to name a few. As a songwriter, he sometimes uses an acoustic percussive style to rearrange both his own and others compositions. He has been working as a Guitar & Music Theory teacher since 2016. Since shifting to Mumbai in 2018, he has taught at The Soundmonk School Of Music for a year as a Guitar Faculty, soon after completing his Grade 8 for Guitar from Trinity School Of Rock & Pop. Since early 2020, he has been teaching at the True School of Music as a Music Theory & Ear Training Faculty. He is also currently in the process of recording an EP of original compositions with his Contemporary Indie Folk Rock band, Rejected Cartoons. Their EP is expected to be released by late 2021.
