Engineer - MBA quits 9 to 5 job to make music

Born in Bhopal, Bhuwan spent almost six years of his life working as a marketing executive until he realized his true calling and went to pursue music full-time. He was scared initially, to quit a well-paying job and follow his passion. He had many responsibilities which added to the pressure and uncertainty of switching his career path. It took him some time but he was ready to hustle for his passion. He knew it was now or never for him.

Bhuwan S., Music Producer, Singer, Songwriter & Guitarist

"I have followed the traditional path in education that every Indian household 90s boy/girl went through -- engineering and MBA"

After completing MBA, he started working. Soon he got so caught up in work he stopped playing or producing music. He slowly slipped into depression and developed a severe anxiety disorder with temperamental disorientation. He wasn’t happy and felt suffocated, not being able to make music at all. “To my utter shock, the usual societal statement -- 'Take a job and then do whatever you want in music after that' started proving a distant ship in the horizon which was slowly fading away to oblivion.” When he sat down and contemplated, he realised he hadn’t done anything for his dreams, for what made him satisfied. That is when he took a leap of faith and left everything for good to pursue music full-time.

I knew one day I will explode if I don't get some sanity with making music.”

That’s how it all started. Just a leap of faith and a hope for a better tomorrow. Which is what his album ‘Better Days’ is all about.

“Every song conveys an emotion/feeling of a personal battle and how I overcame the fear and finally accepted myself for who I am. It tells a story of hope, dreams and simply a relaxing state of being.”

The apprenticeships mostly follow an approach of training younger generations a specific trade through on-the-job training. It may seem that apprenticeships were used only in the days gone by, but that is not the case. Most of the Industries today still use apprenticeships to advance knowledge for young professionals, and the same is true for the tech industry.

It is easy to mistakenly think that an apprenticeship is the same as an internship. Internships are mainly for students who are looking to gain experience or see how they would enjoy a particular career. They are often unpaid and tasked with minimal duties in the company. The goal of an internship is to gain experience in a specific industry and see if it is something one could be doing full time by themselves. Internships have a set period of time that a student or recent graduate will work for, usually lasting a semester.

On the other hand, an apprenticeship is targeted towards recent graduates who are looking for real-life experience in the industry. They are often paid for their work and are given important duties and tasks that impact the team. Apprentices usually have more responsibilities than a traditional intern. They also have the opportunity to make real contributions to the tech team. The goal of someone working in an apprenticeship is that afterward, they will be rewarded with a full-time position at the company. Furthermore, the length of apprenticeships can vary between companies, lasting from months to sometimes years. Thus, Apprenticeship will help graduates to become industry ready and employable by having a curriculum where they can go for apprenticeship for at least two years to get the necessary  industry exposure.

Software engineers are required to develop, design, maintain, modify and debug software. These qualities are a combination of both the soft and technical skills needed for efficiency in the workplace. Software engineering skills are abilities required by software developers to create, maintain and operate computer programs used by businesses and organizations.

Life Skills Workshop!

What is Goal Setting? What are SMART Goals? What is the reason for you not being able to complete your tasks and achieve your goals?

All of these intriguing questions were answered in a Life Skills Workshop by Dr. Santosh Dhadambe, Chief Medical Officer, Vijaybhoomi University. All the students were amused when they got to know that they have to prepare a drawing. Everyone was provided with pencils, colors and blank sheets. This excited the students. One was quoted as saying “I am holding colors in my hands after 5 years. As a child, I was good at drawing.”

Students were instructed to draw what they really want to be like after 10 years. Everybody got on doing it. Some were seen making huge bungalows and cars. Some students made a crowd of people, indicating they want to be famous. Some students were reluctant to let you have a look at their drawings, as they thought it was embarrassing. (P.S. they were embarrassing). After an hour, everyone was done with their drawings and each student did a presentation explaining their thoughts and vision. This process focused more on being specific about your goals, after reasoning out to the last bit. Students learned how to set SMART Goals (Specific-Measurable-Achievable-Relevant-Time Bound). In the next hour, Dr. Santosh was open to help out students with their personal problems. Most of the students were facing the dreadful habit of Procrastination, which is the case with a large number of students in our country. A thoughtful discussion took place which helped students gain insights into themselves, their behaviour and their attitude which leads to procrastination. It was similar to a mentoring session and the students left the classroom motivated to achieve their goals.

“Being in the field of psychology, I successfully dwelled into the minds of the students to understand the root cause of their problems and gave them feasible solutions. The activity of drawing out your vision of yourself after 10 years was to strengthen the beliefs the students had towards their goals, so that they’re confident about it, no matter what circumstances. The students were playful and it was fun to have this session with all of them. I was happy that they are comfortable in sharing their problems with me. The students are enthusiastic to learn and to change themselves for the better. And I’m happy to facilitate their growth.”

               – Dr.Santosh Dhadambe, Chief Medical Officer, Vijaybhoomi University

“I loved the process of making us realise our goals and the theory of SMART goals was quite impressive and I think these sessions will help us more in the upcoming days.”

          – Shreyas Pawar, 1st year BE AI student, Vijaybhoomi University

Graffiti in Sports Block

The students showcased their creativity and design skills on the walls of the sports block. Under the guidance of Prof. Pravin Mishra, the students painted a graffitti. It took them 7 hours daily to complete the graffiti, which went on for 3 days. In the end, the graffiti came out to be an artistic treat to the ambience of the sport's block, which is also called "Revive".

With walls being painted across the campus, there is a wave of excitement and joy among students.
