Avani Chaturvedi, who became the first Indian woman to fly a 'Mig-21' 'Bison' solo in February 2018, was also part of the IAF contingent that traveled to Japan for the 'Veer Guardian exercise, which was held between January 12th and 26th at the Hyakuri airbase.

This air combat exercise between India and Japan was a critical military exercise. While a number of female pilots have taken part in combat exercises in India, this is the first time one of them will take part in such wargames outside of India.

Chaturvedi, the squadron leader, is from a small town near Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. Was a computer science B-tech graduate. When it came to service, she was a standout, as one of the first three women to be commissioned into the IAF fighter stream following basic training.

The inclusion of these women shattered the long-standing combat exclusion policy for women in the armed forces. As a result, the IAF currently has around 17 female fighter pilots. There are also approximately 145 female helicopter and transport aircraft pilots.

Chaturvedi, who had a strong desire to join the armed forces like her brother, became a member of her college's flying club, which piqued her interest in flying. As a result of her interest, she was able to pass the AFCAT and was later recommended by the AFSB.

Chaturvedi is currently assigned to the Indian Air Force's No. 23 Squadron Panthers in Suratgarh, Rajasthan. She has received a number of awards, including the Nari Shakthi Puraskar in March 2020.

Personal Branding – The Need of the Hour

Digital world has become an essential part of our life. For students, all digital platforms, whether it is networking websites like Facebook or Twitter or content websites like YouTube or Instagram, or their own blogs, all these platforms have become a day-to-day part of not just their personal life, but also their academic life.

Assistant Professor, Vijaybhoomi University

Academic institutes, in India, as well as abroad, while selecting students for their graduate and undergraduate students, and companies while selective candidates for various job roles, along with checking students on various quality parameters and their academic performance, also give high importance to their activities in digital social life. They want to see and understand what are all activities a student does on these social media platforms. According to a study by Kaplan Study prep, online digital brand, which includes all digital activities by students, influence the decision-making of admission managers.  So, it is very important for students to present their best part on social media, create their personal brand using these online platforms, and maintain that for the long term.

Each of these social media platforms has a different purpose for its users. For example, Facebook is all about sharing what is happening in your personal or professional lives, however, LinkedIn is only for making business connections. Instagram is all about sharing the soft side of life, fun, and the color of life in terms of photographs or videos. YouTube is all about creating content, both personal and professional which is available to the public to view, comment on, or share. Essentially before starting to use all these platforms, students should understand the aim of these platforms so that they can get the best out of them, to build their personal brands.

Personal branding, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), is “what you’re known for and how people experience you. It’s about bringing who you are to what you do and how you do it.” For students, their personal branding is promoting their ideas, skills, knowledge, competencies, and achievements among their network, universities, or future employers where they want to start their dream jobs. This involves presenting the best part of you - your personality, communication, interpersonal skills, networking skills, hobbies, and passions. However, remember promotion is effective only if a product is of good quality and after-sales services are also good. Similarly, it is critical to developing required behavioral, leadership, and technical competencies; present them effectively on offline as well as online platforms; then continuously strive to improve them. That is the only way to build a long-term sustainable personal brand. As Rome was not built in a day, so for every person, it takes time to build a personal brand, both in the offline world as well as on social media.

At JAGSOM (Jagdish Sheth School of Management) which is part of Vijaybhoomi University, we focus on and help students to discover themself; develop advanced management competencies with new-age specializations like music, law, and data science; and help students to present their skills and competencies effectively to the outer world with an aim to build their own personal brand which is effective and sustainable in long term. JAGSOM is the only B-School in India that has both its campuses – Bangalore as well as Mumbai campus – AACSB accredited, which is a gold standard in management institutions across the world.

Saarang Arora, B.Tech - AI, INSOFE

Since the times of the Ancient Greeks, theatre has had an integral part in the vast global culture of humanity. From famous playwrights like William Shakespeare to famous Broadway actors like Jonathan Groff. Theatre has spanned space and time, and now it is sowing its buds in the campus of Vijaybhoomi University.

The Theatre Club, Swarang, recently put up an adaptation of ‘The Seduction’ by Neil Simon. The play is a slapstick comedy about how a bachelor tries to woo another man’s wife and how it eventually backfires on him.

With Divina Dcunha, Orienta Chetia, Dechen Bhutia, and Saarang Arora as actors, the play was directed by Dr. Thejus Kartha, a professor at INSOFE school of Data Science.

A huge crowd showed up at the Auditorium to witness the play, and see their friends act on the stage. The crowd enjoyed a fun evening of laughs and a surprise twist at the end of the play that while most saw coming, still enhanced the play.

Why was volunteering for Kanyathon important

Shritika Dubey, Vijaybhoomi School of Law

To know about the current problems of the country which actually does not look real or visible is the most important duty for a student. Kanyathon basically gave a very deep idea about the conditions of  unprivileged girls around us. It gave us a hope and courage to teach them how to run for your own selves. Acting as a volunteer in Kanyathon was very special and golden opportunity for the students of Vijaybhoomi University. Students learnt how to contribute towards the society which is unknown to the world. This event not only taught the girls out there but also the families, parents, teenagers, they got aware of the conditions of the poor girls in villages. Numerous people took steps towards this event and made this event more special for those unprivileged.
